| SICK AND WOUNDED. ST. JOHN AND RED CROSS. COMMITTEE ELECTED. itli the object of assisting the joint provincial committee of the Order of St. John and the Xew Zealand Red Cross Society in the campaign a 1 tout to be launched for funds for sick and wounded niemliers of the armed services, prisoners of war and civilians, and members of the Mercantile Marine injured as a result of hostile action, a representative committee of Auckland citizens was elected at a meeting l«st evening. The meeting, which was called by the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, was held in the Town Hall Council Chamber and was attended bv over 200 people. Officers were elected as follows:— Chairman, the Hon. Eliot R. Davis, M.L.C.; deputy-chairman, Air. D. F. Mflckay; joint secretaries, Messrs. A. Harker and S. E. Langstone; honorary treasurer, Mr. C. H. Battlev; executive, Messrs. C. Grierson, (J. W. Hutchinson. Mackay, <■'. T. Patcrson, L. P. Leary, Rr Spencer. W. B. Darlow, C. H. Palmer. T. McXab, .1. \Y. Kendall, mid 11. B. Barnett. It was announced that as the nucleus of the fund donations totalling £ti!H) had l>een received. The donations included the following: Anonymous. £2i>o: Sir Ernest and Davis, £100; Rendell's, Ltd.. L' 100; and Sir Alliert Kllirs. £2.1. Sir Ernest explained in effect the position was that, whereas the Provincial Patriotic Councils attended to the provision of comforts, amenities and specie.
