STATE OF SIEGE.
ALL OVER HOLLAND. "Protective Assistance" Will Be Resisted. SERVICES FOB PEACE. Tinted Tress Association.—Cop.f.-isht. (Received 1 p.m.) LOXDOX, April 19. The Premier of Holland, Dr. D. J. de Greer, in a broadcast, said that the Government, in the interests of neutrality, had decided to extend the state of siege throughout Holland, states a message from The Hague. The Premier, whose broadcast was relayed to the Dutch East Indies, said that Holland was ready to place her services at the disposal of belligerents. Her peace palace was open to them, but ; Holland would resist with arms auy | 1 attempt to extend protective assistance. The same applied to overseas possesI sions. There is a chorus of resentment in 1 the Japanese Press concerning Mr. : Cordell Hull's implications that Japan is harbouring aggressive aims in the Dutch East Indies. The "Xichi Xichi Shimbun" says the statement will inflame and not restrain the Japanese, who arc angered at this unfriendly and unnecessary American interference. i ARMS FACTORY. During the second day of their tour ' of the Midlands, the King and Queen . to-day watched a test flight of one of Britain's latest and most powerful war- " planes. Their Majesties also visited factories for the construction of search- , 1 lights, sound-locators and for the buildi ing of tanks and other armaments.
