VOLUNTEERS SACKED.

RECRUITS FOR AIR FORCE. DEFENCE MINISTERS CONCERN. (From Our Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, Thursday. Reported instances of men losing their employment as a result of their probable enlistment in the Royal New Zealand Air Force are looked upon with the greatest concern by the Government, and the Minister of Defence, the Hon. V. Jones, to-day expressed the hope that all employers would realise their clear duty in the matter, even if in some cases the efficiency of their organisations was temporarily affected. He also requested that any employee faced with dismissal and a consequent .period of unemployment before he went into camp should bring his position to the notice of the Minister. The Minister said a large number of young men had submitted applications for enlistment in the Air Force and of the large number already interviewed by the selection committee a certain proportion had been set down to undergo educational courses of varying periods. "Notwithstanding the fact that our country is at war and that every encouragement should be given to these men. it appears," the Minister continued, ''that some employers, knowing that their empjoyees may in the future — it may be in one month or possibly six months' time—be enlisted in one or; other of our fighting services, are proceeding to engage additional staff immediately with a view to dispensing with the service of employees who have, enlisted.''
