RESTRICTIONS OKN NURSES.
(To the Editor.) The severe restriction* placed on tie travel of trained nurses has come m a complete surprise to the majority of fc. As far as ire know there is BO restriction on the travel of men of aflj. tary age. As a profession we would, oee and all, if convinced of the necesertr with our country at war, make my sacrifice, but we do not wish the war to be made an excuse to penalise ns. TW+ exodus of nurses has been taking place for a number of yeans and many do art come back to work in their native As the-Government ha® seen fit to take this drastic step, and we the people concerned knew of it for the first tine through the newspapers. I suggest a full investigation should be made. It is stated that there is difficulty in seenr* ing trained nurses for private and public hospitals, and. as the lady superintendent of the Auckland Hospital says, quite a number accepted hospital position* in South Africa recently. The reason, u well as a wish for travel, mijrht be found in a comparison with the salaries offered and a p-lance at those offered here in the situations vacant column. It if time that the Division of Nursing was at least {liven some of the protection extended by the Government to o:hers, N.Z.R.X.EAL
