WANGANUI NEXT.

RACING ON SATURDAY. CLAUDELANDS THE VENUE. CENTENNIAL REVIEWED. Tile acceptances for the VV anganui Trotting Club's autumn meeting, to be held at Claudelands on Saturday, are quite worth while, as the fields are both well-balanced and of nice size. Twelve horses are engaged in the Centennial Handicap, principal event, including Kewpie's Queen, Belfast Jack and iranswell, three recent winners, while ofheiß have good form this season to commend them. Kewpie's Queen won over a shorter course than two miles at Hawera, but even though she will lack nothing on the score of condition it is not unlikely that Bronze Queen wi.i prove ro be her superior over this distance. Ar Cambridge on January 13 Bronze Queen recorded 4.30 4-5 when she finished second to Peter Smith in the Centenary Handicap. She failed at Thames, but must be regarded as a probability from 4.43.

Luininate has occasionally shown signs of stamina, and Television impressed when he hlushed second to Warship from 72yds ill the Broadway Handicap at l'alnierston Aoritn on February 19. He also ran the two nnles in 4.30 4-5, and. like Bronze Queen, was not in a place in the Thames Cup. which was run in 1.36 1-5. Belfast Jack, 12yds. winner of the I'haxneß Cup, is on the improve, an<l is sure to be one of the early favourites. He showed rare gamcness in ■worrying Our Jewel out of the Gup at Thames, and the latter emphasised his class later in the afternoon by winning the Kopu Handicap as he liked. Neither Gold Circle nor Munga langi on the t=»me mark as Belfast Jack, has shown up for a long time, and perforce are passed over.

After showing both good and bad form a trott-er, Llanvabon, 36yds, was converted to the pacing gait, and at Wauganui in January he won over a mile and a quarter and a mile and a half. He stayed on well as a trott?r, anil is a possibility. Ace High and Civic failed t'o show up on the laranaki circuit last month, and need to improve considerably to possess reasonable prospects.

That brinps us to Transwefl and langatu. The former was beaten into third place in the Thames Cup by Belfast Jack and Our Jewel when conceding them 36yds, and now, as a result? of his victory in tlhe Cambridge Winter Handicap last oaturday, he is called upon to concede Belfast Jack tSyds. The task may not be ■beyond him. Transwell was very slow off the mark at Thames, losing about 30yds, and he looked to be a better horse at Cambridge. Tangitu, 72vds, is nor fancied. Preference may be shown for Bronze Queen, Belfast J.iek. Transwell and Television in early discussions. The Second "Leg." Moana Tama, Tangaroa, Tinker and True Trust are the only horses in the Aotearoa Ha.lld.ic3p who are not engaged in the Centennial. The shorter distance of this race will suit Luminate. Television and Kewpie's Queen, but nothing stands out. . Tangaroa, giving away a second to come into the class, displayed promise last Saturday by finishing brilliantly from 24yds behind to be a eorwl third to Kete Kifra and Handieapper in the President's Handicap. He ran 2.49 2-5, and is on the limit here—2.s3.

Tinker, who was on 36yds at Cambridge, made a fast forward move on the home ■turn, but-faltered shortly afterwards. He should be dangerous off the front in this race, especially if the course is dry. True Trust must be taken on trust", and Llanvabon, Ace High and Civic have a hard task to eonccde handicaps to some of those engaged.

Fancies at this stage are Belfast JacfcTmker bracket, Tangaroa, 1/uminate and Kewpie s Queen.
