The matter has l>ecii carried to Washington, and the L nited States Civil Aeronautics Authority was told that a Los Angeles jbase for the proposed air line "was virtually mandatory under the Federal Governments policy of public interest." Appearing at an oral argument in oppn-.it ion to an examiner's report denying Los Angeles a Clipper base, •lanies L. ISeebe, president of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, stressed the need* of Southern California, the W e>tern state- and other parts of the country for an "easy gatewav to the Orient, and urged the Authority to "consider ilie tremendous traffic possibilities contained within the Los Angeles Countv area."
