TO FILL THOSE IDLE MOMENTS
THE WALNUT TORTOISE. GLASC iwn AND KNIFE TRICK,
Crack a walnut so that one-half of the shell is perfect, and eat the walnut, of course! Now put the shell, dome side up, on a piece of thin card (a postcard is about the rijr'it thickness), and cut out on oval to fit the shell. Leave four projections of card for the legs, and two extra for the head and tail. Run some fish gl ue
round the flat rim of the shell and press the card in contact. When hard and dry. paint the card to match the colour of the shell, bend the legs slightly down, and the head up. Thread a length of cotton round the neck anil you have a tine little toy, which will amuse a youngster for hours. Make three or four, and the kiddiee will be able to run races.
Three tumblers are placed to form an equilateral triangle at rather greater intervals than the length of a knife between them. •Tihe puzzle then is to arrange the knives, with their handles resting upon the rim of the tumblers, and mutually supporting themselves in the centre. To do this the end of tho blade of each knife U so placed that it goes under the blade of one and over the blade of the other in the V formed between them.
