Is Britain Gentile?

Published by Arrangement.

Sir, I was very interested in the article Russia, Germany and Great Britain in Prophecy, reproduced by permission of the Rev. W. Lamb in the Supplement to the "N.Z. Herald," March 9th. 1940. It is a befitting time for such an article to be published, as there are thousands that have not the slightest notion where we are in the present dispensation, or understand the happenings of the present day. As I chance to be a believer that the British are the present-day descendants of the "Northern Kingdom" or House of Israel, * perhaps best known as the lost Tribes of Israel, I would very much like to offer a little friendly criticism on a few of the passages quoted by the Rev. Lamb in his article, as he suggests that the British are descended from Japheth and are consequently Gentile, while I believe Britain to be Israel and consequently descended from Shem and therefore Hebrew. Mr. Lamb says, speaking of beginnings, the progenitor of a mighty modern nation developed into a family, the family into a tribe, and the tribe into a nation, and the nation into a company of nations. Now, is the latter part of this statement quite correct? There is only one nation that 1 know of that has developed into a company of nations, and that is Great Britain, and there is only one man that I know of that was ever promised by God that his seed should develop into a nation and a company of nations, and that was Jacob, at the time that God changed his name from Jacob to Israel, Genesis 35: 10-12. Mr. Lamb makes little or no mention of the Northern Nation going into captivity; he mentions the southern nation, or House of Judah. generally called the Jews, going into captivity in Babylon. The House of Israel was taken captive by the Assyrians, and at the same time a great number of the cities of Judah were also taken captive with them into Assyria, five or six hundred miles north of Jerusalem, and as far as my reading of the Scriptures go never returned even to this day. About 130 years later Judah was taken captive to Babylon, about 500 miles east of Jerusalem, a remnant returning after 70 years to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls of the city and lay the foundation of the Temple. As God told David that He would appoint a place for His people Israel and would plant them, that they might dwell in a place of their own, and move no more, and that the children of wickedness should not afflict them any more as before time (II Samuel 7-10), it seems that we have to look for a great Hebrew nation other than the Jews, and not living in the Holy Land. II Esdras: 13 tells us of a peaceful multitude in the latter years and where they came from. No one can say with truth that Britain has not striven for peace, almost to the lengths of humiliation! Esdras says, 13:34: And an innumerable multitude shall be gathered together as thou sawest them, willing to come and to overcome Him (Christ). (The anti-God forces.) Further on verses 39-50 read as follows about the peaceable multitude: And whereas thou sawest that He* gathered another peaceable multitude unto Him: These are the ten Tribes which were carried away prisoners out of their own land in the time of Osea the King, whom Salmanasar the King of Assyria led away captive, and he carried them over the waters, and so came they unto another land. But they took this counsel among themselves, that they would leave the multitude of the heathen and go forth into a further country, where never mankind dwelt, that they might there keep their statutes, which they never kept in their own land. And they entered into Euphrates, by the narrow passes of the river. For the Most High then showed signs for them and held still the flood till they were passed over. For through that country there was a great way to go, namely, of a year and a half: and the same region Arsareth. Then dwelt they there until the latter times; and now wheir thejrishall begin to come, the Highest shall stay the springs of the stream againTitet-tlvey. may go through: therefore sawest thou the multitude with peace, but thosS-thatJfe? left behind of the people are they that are found within my borders. So when He destroyeth the multitude of the nations that are gathered together, He shall defend His people that remain. And then shall He show them great wonders. This great multitude travelled west. They were the Northern Kingdom, namely, the House of Israel, and undoubtedly making for the Isles of the West that the Prophets speak so much about. Hosea 1 : 10, 11, tells us, Yet the number the children of Israel (not judah or the Jews) shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot .be measured nor numbered, and it shall come to pass that in the place where it was said unto them, "Ye are not my people,"* there it .shall he said unto them. Ye are the sons of the living God." Then shall the children of Judah and the children of Israel (note two distinct peoples) he gathered together and appoint themselves and they shall come up out of the land: for great shall be the day of Jezreel. Isaiah speaks quite a lot about the Isles. Isaiah 24:14 says. Glorify ye the Lord in the Isles of the Sea. Also 41 :l. 42-12, 42:4.—1t is seen by all this that this Israel nation is multitudinous and with potentialities to Godliness, and that God is speaking to them through His Prophets. .Britain used to keep the Sabbath, and still does after a fashion, but the coming of the great sign of the end having set in, namely, the great falling away, spoken of by St. Paul in II Thes. 2:3, our people prefer pleasure and "sport than the things of God. The Jewish population being only about 16,000,000 all told could never be apoken of as the Sand of the sea. Israel blessing Joseph's two sons (Genesis 48: 16-20), said. Let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth,, that is Ephraim and Manasseh. There is ample proof that there is a very great Hebrew nation on the earth, quite independent and apart from the people we call the Jews amongst all nations. In Isaiah 31:5 we have the deliverance of Jerusalem, 1917, re Turkey, called Edom in the Bible, that the British drove out of Palestine in 1917. God says, Ezek. 25:14, And I will lay My vengeance upon Edom, by the hand of My people Israel (not Tarshish), and they shall do in Edom according to My anger and according to My fury, and they shall know My vengeance, saith the Lord God. After reading the Bible through a few times and making that very necessary distinction between the House of Israel and the House of Judah, which it was the purpose of God to separate into two distinct Kingdoms, it is most apparent that the history of the whole House of Israel (all the tribes) is told from their beginning to the end of the Millennium. God undertook to train a special people for a special work, and many think He failed. They have yet to find out that when God Almighty undertakes to do a thing "He does it." Israel will yet do the bidding of her God, from the day that they learn God to be "Their God. EZEK 39-22. says Ch. 42-19, Who is blind but my servant? or deaf as my messenger that I sent? who is blind sis he that is perfect, and blind as the Lord's servant? As a rule you would not count a blind person perfect, but if you are hidden in Jesus Christ you are made perfect, yet the prophet calls these same people blind. It is strange, is it not? F. BOSTOCK, Te Puke.
