U.S. PRESIDENT.
Socialist Candidate Has Had Three Attempts. NORMAN THOMAS SELECTED. (Received 12.50 p.m.) WASHINGTON, April 7. The Socialist party has chosen Mr. Norman Thomas as its candidate in the November Presidential election. This will be the fourth time that Mr. Thomas has run a platform. He will emphasise the socialisation of essential industries and will advocate non-participation in the European war. The convention of the Socialist party adopted its traditional anti-war and non-intervention resolutions, but a minority favoured the United States extending economic and non-military aid to the Allies because of their antiHitler objective.
