RESIDENT OF AUCKLAND. IS 95 OX THURSDAY. On Thursday of this week Mr. Frederick Block, of Rocklands Avenue, Balmoral, will celebrate his Sl.ith birthclay. For his year*. Mr. Bluck is remarkably active. He plays bowls and reads the newspaper daily without the aid of spectacles. Horn at I.eomineter, near Hereford, in ISI."i. Mr. Block served in a Lincoln's Inn legal office after leaving school. Tie canic to Xew Zealand in October. ISOB. and shortly afterward* look over a small school at West Tamaki. Later he taught at the Wairoa South school, now Clevcdon, participated in the Thames gold rush, aud served a* statioumaster at Waitara. He lived in Waitara for many years, and there married M. A. Ibbotson. daughter of a wellknown Xew Plymouth pioneer. At various times Mr. Illuek was cecretarv and chairman of the Waitara Town Board and Harbour Board, and member of the New Plymouth Harbour Board and Education Hoard. He was also master of the Sir Donald McLean Lodge, Freemasons. Returning to Auckland, Mr. Bluck bought vineries at Avondale. For some years he was clerk to the Avondale Road Board. Mr. Bluck, who lias been interested in s|>ort throughout his life, has; four daughters. There arc eight grandchildren and seven great-grand-children.
