NEW OFFICERS.
LABOUR FEDERATION. THE AUCKLAND COUNCIL. ELECTION THIS WEEK. Keen interest is being taken in industrial circles in Auckland in the election of new officers of the Auckland District Council of the Federation of Labour, which is to be held on Thursday of this week. Voting will be on the preferential system, and the eontests for the various positions arc likely to be close. Only one position is not contested— that of secretary, which is held by Mr. X. V. Douglas. The present president. Mr. F. G. Young, secretary of the Hotel Workers' Union and newly-appointed vice-president of the Auckland Labour Representation Committee, is seeking re-election, and is being opposed by Messrs. R. Armstrong and T. Stanley. The vice-president at the moment is Mr. W. J. Cuthbert, secretary of the Waterside Workers' Union, who last week was elevated to the position of president of the L.R.C. He, too, is poinjr to the ballot on this occasion, and he has two men opposing him, Messrs. R. Armstrong and H. Barnes. There is also a "three-cornered eontest" for the position of Auckland representative on the national executive of the federation. Last year Mr. Young displaced Mr. Stanley, and both men are contesting the office, together with Mr. Armstrong.
