£20 FINE IMPOSED.

MOTOR CYCLISTS OFFENCE.

A fine of £20 wa* imposed by Mr. J. Morling, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court to-day on WUliam Anthony Fitzgerald, freeing worke labourer (Mr. Aekine),on a.charge of being in charge of a motor cycle in Khyber Pass Road on March 23 last whilst ;n a state of intoxication. Fitzgerald also had his license cancelled and the magistrate prohibited him from securing another for 12 months.

Tlie defence was that defendant wae not in charge of the motor ryele when arrested and did not intend to drive aiway.

Tho magistrate, however, said he could not accept the evidence of the defence. In hi* opinion Fitzgerald we* quite prepared t«> drive the cycle .home and was undoubtedly iu charge of it.
