FURTHER CHURCH TRIBUTES.
FRIENDSHIP AND SERVICE. From the pulpits of all churches yesterday references were made to the passing of the Prime Minister, and tributes were paid to the character and accomplishments of the late Mr. Savage. Representatives of State and civic authorities, members of the Consular Corps, and ofh'eers of all lighting services, as well as representatives of many other organisations, attended the special memorial service in St. Matthew's, where Canon R, G. Coats was the preacner. The Waterside Workers' Band played the Dead Mnrch in "Saul." At a special service in Mr. Savage's electorate, Auckland West, Canon W. W. Averill took as his theme, at All Saints', Ponsonby, the lessons to be learned from the friendship which the la to Prune Minister gave and enjoyed. Representatives were present from the Auckland West branch of the Labour party.
Mr. Savage's unselfish service to the community was spoken of by the Rev. W. Bower Black at the morning service at St. David's, Presbyterian Church; and a similar theme was developed by the Rev. E. T. Olds at the morning service at the Pitt Street Methodist Church. A tribute was also paid by the Rev. Dr. Alexander Hodge at the morning serviee at the Baptist Tabernacle. At all these services there were large attendances of tlie public.
