FEBRUARY FIRES.
THIRTY FALSE ALARMS:
SUPERINTENDENTS REPORT.
During February the Auckland Fire Brigade was called out 53 times, and 30 of these have been calls through the automatic fire alarms, of which eight were justifiable, 13 were caused by faults in the installation, and nine were classed as malicious.
According to the reptJrt presented to the Fire Board to-day by Mr. W. L. Wilgon, superintendent, one. person
nUaking a malicious fire call wes detected through information supplied by a resident, and the board granted the informant a vote of two guineas. Reporting on the causes of the Iβ genuine fires extinguished by the brigade, the superintendent stated that in one case incendiarism was suspected. Two fires were considered to have been caused by the dropping of lighted cigarettes, and three to have resulted from gas and electric domestic appliances, having been carelessly left on. Three I outbreaks were attributed to electric short circuits, one in a motor car and one in a refrigerator.
