New Road To Bastion Point Being Formed
A bulldozer, three graders and twelve motor trucks are being used at Orakei to-day for the construction of a road from Kepa Road to Bastion Point, where the remains of the late Prime Minister, the Right Hon. M. J. Savage, will be laid to rest on Sunday afternoon. A large number of men have been engaged to cut grass and clear up the debris in the vicinity of the
grave site and to spread scoria on the new road as it is cut along the Bastion Point ridge. The road will be approximately thirty feet wide and run in a northerly direction from Kepa Road. It will run through the property now played over by the Orakei Golf Club. It will not be of temporary construction, as it is later on to be included in the Bastion Point public park scheme. -
