DR. SCHACHT LAUGHED.

SEARCH OF ITALIAN LINER.

LONDON, March 24.

Regarding reports from New York alleging that the Italian Line's steamer Conte di Savoia (48,502 tons) was held up for 13 hours by the British authorities while a vain search was made for Dr. Hjalmar Schacht, Hitler's economic adviser, it is learned in London that the authorities had received reports that there might be certain passengers travelling under false passports. The delay of 13 hours is not regarded as excessive in the circumstances.

The Berlin correspondent of the Associated Press says Dr. Schacht, interviewed by long-distance telephone at his Brandenburg farm, laughed at the American reports that he was believed to be on board the Conte di Savoia.
