WARTIME STATISTICS. World tin production in the first fire months c* the war amounted to 113,400 tons, an average of 22,700 tons a month. In the same period, apparent consumption totalled 86,200 tone, or an average of 17,200 tons a month. The estimate of production in January is 17,000 tone, or about 10,005 ton* lower than the figure for December. The provisional estimate of consumption in January is 22,600 tons. Visible stocks of tin increased in the five months ended January 31 bv more than 25.C00 tons. Consumers' stocks increased by 11,000 tons, the visible supply by 4500 tons, the carryover by 5400 tone, and smelters' stocks by 4900 tons. For the second quarter of 1940, the promotion quota has been fixed at 80 per cent, of standard tonnages, against 120 per cent for the current quarter.
