NEW BOATS BUILDING

ACTIVITY AT THE YARDS. CRAFT FIND NEW OWNERS. The war and its rest.rietions have not deterred some yachtsmen from placing orders well ahead for next season. Mr. J. A. Wheeler, of Baysutiler, has an order for it cabin motor cruiser for Miss Mavis liraiind, of Hays water. The boat will be 30ft overall and flit beam, and carry about 300 tret, of sail in mainsail and jib. similar to Mr. Percy Cartel's Helen C. Work has been started on the new boat.

Mr. Sain Ford, of lillerslio, is completing a 30ft motor cruiser for Mr. Shelly 15. Atkinson, of I.emuera. She is- oil the latest lines and is powered with a 7a h.p. Chrysler. The main cabin is Bft long, with wide berths and a oft galley on port and lavatory on starboard side. Forward of this is tile engine room, Bft long, and above it is the bridge-deck, with all controls. The fore-cabin is 7ft and has two berths ami a settee, with a rope locker right in the bows. The boat has ~ wide, llaring bow with passages leading aft on each side of the deckhouse and a canopy top over the cockpit.

Messrs. Collins and ISell have a working launch well "advanced foi: shipment to the Islands for inter-island work. She is being planked and will be finished next month.

Mr. It. Lang, of SI. Mary's Bay. is building a 30ft motor cruiser for a local resident on which work is well forward.

At the shipyard of Messrs. W. G. Lowe and Son extensive repairs are in hand to the Nobel JCxplosivtw ketch Mho, damaged .bv collision recently at Napier. A seine uct trawler is Hearing completion for the I'earl Fisheries- Companv of Auckland. She is 45ft overall, 12ft liin beam and lift draught, Lowered with 4.7 h.p. Diesel. Just completed is another trawler 42ft overall, named Kia Maia, fur the Kill Ora Fisheries Companv. She has a 50 h.p. Diesel. Work has started on a 40ft by lift by Oft trawler for a local firm.

Lidgard's Save just completed to flic order of Mr. Sawbrid'-'o a 33ft keel yacht, which has been named Mokiiui. Recently delivered were a 34ft 'launch for Mr. Cutler, of Kuwau. and Mr. Leu Heard's 43foorcr Kenya 11. Work is proceeding on a 34ft motor launch for Mr. .1. Watson, of Auckland, to be powered with a 21 h.p. Diesel. An order is in hand for a 45ft trawler.

At the yard of Messrs. P. Vos, Ltd., a 50ft bv 14ft bv Oft (iin seine net trawler is completed for the Waitemata Fisheries and her Diesel engine is now being fitted. Work is .progressing on another 50ft trawler for the same firm. Several orders for short-end keel yachts for next season are in hand.

Mr. C. Tilby. of Tauranga. has purchased the 22ft h class Macushla from Mr. J. Lidgard. of Xorthcotc. The yacht was taken to Tauranga last week, the party comprising her owner, also Messrs. O. Bruund, J. Ohnbb and O. Cuinmings. On the way down a call was made at Mercury Bav, light weather being experienced after passing" Cape Colville.

The 22-footer Otira ha? just changed hands, her new owners being Messrs. Bourke, Wrattcu and Brummcl, of Fonsonby.

Christened Rawen. (pleasinj;) by Mrs. Butcher .-is she moved down the ways, on Tuesdav afternoon, a new motor cruiser built bv Messrs. C. Bailey and Sons, of Beaumont Street, took the water without a hitch. She was built to the order of Mr. R. W. Butcher, of St. Helier's Bay, and is 50ft overall, with 13ft Gin beam, and powered with a 100 h.p. motor. Of the latest bridge deck type, she has a flaring bow and very pleasing lines. Her cabin arrangements were planned largely by Mr. ami Mrs. Butcher, and leave little to be desired for comfort and appearance. Over the deck-house is a Hying bridge where all controls are fitted. Mr. Butcher paid a tribute to the work of her builders. The Kawca will be away for her first cruise during the Easter holidays. FISHING IN THE FAIRWAY.
