(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, Wednesday
"The formation of the Railway Group and Forestry Company has now been completed, and I should like to express the Government's thanks for the wonderful response," said the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, to-day. "Within a very short time 1142 applications were received for the Railway Group and over 600 for the Forestry Company.
"The applicants, who were representative of all districts and all branches of the Public Works and Railway Departments, in the case of the Railway Group, and of the timber industry in the case of the Forestry Company, were of an excellent type. There were 370 men required for the Railway Group and 160 for the Forestry Company."
