SLIPS AND WASHOUTS.

Heavy rain and severe electrical storms last night caused further railway and road slips throughout the whole district.
Railway and road communication between the coast and Canterbury i« cut off, the storm bringing another large slip at Jackson*s, where temporary repairs carried out since Monday's slip were washed away.
Nearer Otira a bi* washout suspended several chains of railway line in the air. There was a *übsidenec near Kainmta, with slips at Inchbonnic and Kotuku. On the Reeftun line, a *lip at Tatpoiti blockid transport. In the Tercmakau district t««» -|«n* of a bridge over the Kumara-Mitchcll's Road carried away. Both approaches to the Wainihinihi bridge have gone. Two families are marooned on an island at the Tercmakau settlement, and police arc to-day attempting to rescue them bv boats.
Little damage i* reported in Grey mouth.
The Lewie Pa»s road is now blocked and the eoa>t is practically isolated.
