ACCOUNTANCY EXAMINATION'S

The fact that the innmbership stood at 2870 and that there had been an increase of 351 examined members during the past five years wa* a complete answer to any suggestion that the New Zealand Society of Accountants V! j n ™ any « way * do6c c °rp«ratioii, stated Mr. W. R. Brown (Dunedin) in his presidential address at the annual meeting of the society. Mr. Brown eaid an investigation made by the. council of the society showed that there was no justification for the complaints of candidates or tutors about the accountancy examination*. "With such a large numl>er of entrants for our examinations, it was inevitable that there would be, a lar«e percentage of failures, with consequent disappointment amongst students, tutors and parents/' said the president. 'There was evidence in many cases of poor geueral educational standards, grammar and composition being weak thus militating against the chance* o f student* in questions requiring logicallv written answers. There were few cases where a really conscientious student had failed to complete his course.
