LOSS DUE TO GALES.
200,000 CASES OF FRUIT.

HASTINGS, Tuesday.
Apple and pear losses in Hawke's Bay as a result of recent gales are estimated to amount to 200,000 cases by Mr. G. H. Mclndoe, Government orchard instructor in Hastings. As the original estimate of the Hawke's Bay pip fruit crop this sea-: eon was 900,000 cases, this means that "Ijhe crop has been reduced by more than a fifth. In addition, injury to foliage -.was extensive and this will prevent the fruit from sizing. . . '
