LOCAL BODIES.
NORTHCOTE BOROUGH. The Northeote Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. R. Martin, presiding. ■ , " Finance.—The town clerk, Mr. G. M. Kilham, reported on ratee collected. The rates struck for the year were £10,918, and £9794 had been received, and in addition £1651 had been paid on arreare and £252 for water meters. This total wae £412 more than for the corresponding period of laet year. State Houses.—The town clerk had received 35 applications for State houses in the borough, arid these had been forwarded to the State Advances Corporation. Fighting Services Appeal.—Permission wae granted to take up a collection on Friday, March 15 for the Fighting Services Welfare Appeal. Good Friday Pictures.—Permission was granted for the screening of a picture on Good Friday.
PAPAKURA BOROUGH COUNCIL. The deputy-Mayor. Mr. H. Montgomerie. presided over the fortnisrhtly meeting of the Papakura Borough Council. Fighting Services Appeal.—lt was decided to grant the Fighting Services' Welfare Appeal Fund a street collection on Friday, March 15. Removal of Silent Policeman.—Tn response to a request from the traffic inspector. Mr. W. Wilson, the council decided to remove the silent policeman at the intersection of Averill Street and Great South Road. The inspector stated the street was narrow and that trucks could not negotiate the corner round the dome owing to traffic narked in Averill Street. Frontage of Centennial Memorial.—An effort is to be made to heantifv the frontage of the Centennial building by preparing the land for the laying down of a lawn.
