The two annoat tournaments at Botorua, rmkj3 and pairs, probably larger owing to each, being always over-subscribed, receive such vide publicity that two other provincial tournaments are apt to be overlooked. These are the rinks at Tanraxf-a, always held between the two Rotorua. tournaments in February, and the rinks at Cambridge durins Easter, followed by a scratch pairs tournament commencing on the Tuesday, for those who fail to qualify ia the rinks. As the section pfay has to be completed in three days at Easter, as compared with t'oor days m Rotorua. it suits best to work the_ Cambridge Mctiros with 34 rinks. against! 5.3 at Rotorua, and there never -<eems to be any difficulty in obtaining a fall entry. The Tanranga tournament is equai'.v popular. Hitherto it has been an invitation tournament, limited to 18 rinks for maar years, but snusequently increased to "J7. This year, for the first time, it was conducted a» an open- event, and the use or three srreens enabled 42 rinks to be accepted. It eeexns a splendid idea for the parent club to join forces with the Tauj ranga South clnb, in order to accommoj date so many. The present intention is for [the younger club to construct two new I greens, still more central.

This year'e tournament was again representative, the 42 rinks comprising 15 from

die local centre, 13 Auckland, 12 from. Sooth Auckland, and one each from Gisborne and Waaganui. The Gisborne rink was. skipped by ECro'wley who first came under notice when he began to visit Auckland with his two eons, when they irere all menabane of the Tauranga club.

Roberts (Cariton), Brighting being the well-known Hataitai champion who has competed *o often in Dominion Eouniamente in Auckland. The game was all the -more interesting from the fact that the other skip was E. Tamblyn, known in Auckland as a Dtmedm member of the New Zeai.iad Bowling CounciL nntfl. he moved to «i yeara where he has won the club championship three times. He was supported by J. A. There will be some «nrprise and certainly a jjreiit deal of pleasure at the intimation that 13S entries have beeu received for the open pain tournament of the Auckland Centre, to commence next Tuesday oa 17 greens in the city and suburbs. This is easily a record nuriber since this tournament was '.Mt'tuted in 1925, the previous highest entries three years ago, when W. Best and J. I. ; Griffiths (Ponsonby) woa from 106 pairs competing. The present title-holders are E. Jury and L. Jury (Ponsonby). who defeated in the final last year S. Harris and R- J. Allely, from the same club.
