CHILDREN LEFT ALONE.
JVB.T POINT* OUT DAMOBB. (By Telegraph.—-Own Correspondent.) GISBORNE, this day. The danger of allowing children to remain alone at night was pointed out in a recommendation by the grand jury in the Gisborne Supreme Court yesterday in a rider in connection with one of the eexual cases. The jury recommended that steps -be taken to get into communication with the heads of Maori villages for the purpose of pointing out the danger of allowing children to remain alone in their homes at night. Mr. Justice Callan said that until after the case had been heard by a common jury any comment he might make might prove unfair to accused, but on the face of it the suggestion appeared to be a reasonable one and the sort of matter to which the Press might give due publicity. If so the grand jury's point of view would reach the person* the jury wished it to reach.
