POT LUCK'S EARNINGS.

PLUTtJS' NEW RECORD. NEW BRIGHTON FORM. The Jubilee Handicap, feature event at the New Brighton Trottipg Club's meeting last Saturday, was deprived of much interest "through -the favourites, Great Jewel and Southern Chief, going to a break at Che start. Another well-becked fancy in Colonel Grattan also lost his balance after travelling 20 yards. Renown's Best was first away, but Pot Luck, from 12yds, took the lead in brilliant fashion before two furlongs had been covered. He held on to pcore an easy win, and also to earn special prizes of £50 for the horse that was in the lead at the end of four furlongs and again at the mile post. This niai'ked Pot Luck's second win this season. He also has been seven times in a place. All told, he has won 16 races, has been 14 times second and seven times third. He has earned £7437 in stakes. Plutus made a valiant effort to catch Pot Luck, but never looked like bridjring the gap. Four lengths behind Plutus came Marsceres, then Renown's Best. The first four furlongs occupied l.fl, the mile 2.12 2-5, and the mile and .a half 3.12 Kl. Plutus recorded 3.11 3-5 —a world's Tace record for a mile and a half on a grass course. FIRST FOR LONG TIME. Red Pigeon won her first race in 19 months when she squeezed home by a neck from Toorak in the A. I. Rattray Handicap. She has been a consistent performer, her record prior to her win being six times second, five times third and fourth on four occasions. On Saturday she was first away, but was steadied into fourth place with a mile to go. She raced in this position until the straight was reached, where Toorak made a fast run on the outside of the field. A furlong from home Toorak issued a determined challenge to Red Pigeon, but could not head her. Quest, who Vas tthird to cross the line, was back in seventh place with a round to go, and came on in good style over the laet furlong to secure third.

CONSISTENT PACER. _ With two first* and three plat-nip* in his last six start*. Pa loin ar is earning a fine record for consistency. Hi* performance to win the Birthday Handicap after, a hard fight over the last furlong with Three Tens and Diversion, stamp* him as a game pacer, and one likely to be seen to further advantage. In Three Tens he met a high-class three-year-old. Three Tens began well to be in third place when four furlongs had been covered, whereas Palomar was back in seventh place. A KEEN STRUGGLE. There was .a tussle for first money in the Centennial Handicap iwtween Lightning Lady, Nelson Eddy, and Harold Guy. Marlcne carried on the running for a mile, where Nelson Kddy joined her, with Harold Guy, Lightning Lady and Fremont" just behind them. A furlong from home Nelson Kddy got to the front,'and Lightning Lady anil Harold Guy drew up to challenge him. A hundred yards from file winning poet, Lightning Lady headed Nelson Eddy and beat him decisively by half a length. A similar distance away came Harold Guy, then Fremont and Marlene. ATTAIN ARRIVES. Attain scored her first success when she led all the way to win the Progressive Handicap. Accountant made a determined effort to catch her in the straight', but she hung on long enough to win by a comfortable margin. It was a good performance on the part of Accountant, who began from 34yds and iiad a lot of groundto make up over the last five furlongs. He stuck gamely Co his work, and exhibited plenty of courage when placed under the whip over the last furlong. His time for the mile and a quarter, 2.41 3-3, was a fine effort. Battlevale, third, was prominent throughout the race and was only a neck behind Accountant; at the winning post.
