I The amount "of sales tax collected -during December totalled £307,486, as compared with £291,844 in November December, 1938, and £311,047 uc December generally records the "highest monthly total' of the year, but the figure for that month of 1939 was. exceeded on six occasions during the jrear. - During .the 12 months .ended her 31, 1939,' sales tax receipts amounted' to £3,628,779, -as compared with £3,498,438 Receipts during, each 6t{ the first six months of 1939 showed an increase over those for ,the corresponding - months '' of 1938, the total for the half-yfeat being £1,857,614, as compared- with f0Jt,676^91»-for -that period of 1958,; an inibrease of £180,695. In the only one mOTth (October) recorded an in"criase r overSthe, figure -for the corresponding month of .1938, the total for thh period (£1,771,165) being less than "the; Julyr-December period of .1938.
