RAILWAY EARNINGS.

NET REVENUE £1,250,000. MINISTER'S FORECAST. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The financial results of railway operation from April 1, 1939, to January 6, 1940, were announced by the Minister of Railways, the Hon. D.*G. Sullivan, this evening. "For this portion of the current financial year preliminary figures show the gross revenue to be £7.336,721, and the gross expenditure £8.845 J034, indicating a net revenue of £491,687 for 40 week*," said Mr. Sullivan. "The net revenue position is £438,762 better than at the corresponding date in 1939. The net revenue to January 6 is £21.000 in excess of the amount'upon which the Department's estimates for the Budget were based. "This further confirms the opinion previously expressed that the net revenue of the Department for the current financial year will probably be in the vicinity of £i,25Q,00<L"
