£200,000 WANTED.
PATRIOTIC FUNDS GOAL PROVISION OF COMFORTS; (By. Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Although it is difficult to estimate even approximately the total funds the National Patriotic Funds Board will require to provide comforts for the New Zealand Armed Forces and the Mercantile" Marine in this war, the secretarytreasurer, Mr. G. A. Hayden, stated today that the goal on present-day forecasts should not be less than £200,000. ■Ho emphasised the duty falling upon tliose who remained at home of assisting to the utmost of their capacity those Avho went overseas. He explained how various organisations wcije carrying cut the duties allocated Do them, the National Council being purely an advisory body. He said it was hoped there would be sufficient money left in the national fund at the end of the war to servo as a reservoir for unforeseen circumstances and also to assist the poorer provincial councils. Provincial councils were concerned at the moment with the entertainment of troops within camps and whilst on leave, the supply of sports gear and the equipping of bands. The ultimate aim was the provision of funds to-be used as in the last war to assist men returning to civilian life.
