CAUGHT REDHANDED.
| VIGILANCE OF PATROL. WELLINGTON SAFE-BREAKERS. (By Telegraph.—l>rcss Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The vigilance of a patrol in the city I businc-ss area, Mr. J. Sllcedy, was I responsible for the diseove.ry of safebreakers in the premises "of a drapery firm in Cuba Street late last night. At 10.45, said Mr. Sliecdy, lie saw that the bars of the windows on the lire-escape roof had been sawn through liind the windows broken. He advised the police, and Detective Mel'llec with a liumljcr of dc.lectives were soon at the scene. After a long search of the tlircestorov building, two men were found concealed by partitions. They had ilibber gloves, explosives and sonic instruments with them, said Mr. Sliecdy. T hcv offered no resistance. The strongroom door was broken and also three small safes inside. Mr. Shec.dy stated that to his knowledge there had been recent safebreaking attempts 011 ofliccs in Wakefield Strcc.t, Adelaide Road, •foil 11 Street (twice), Cuba Street, •Tohnston Street (two places!, Majoribanks Street, and Hutt Road.
