BIG DIVIDENDS.
LORD PUCK'S PENCHANT. SURPRISED IX DOURO CUP. t Lord Puck, winner of tho eovctod Douro 1 Uup at Irenthani, the richcst race fori . hacks in New Zealand, seems to have a' t pcnchant for showing his best form when ! 2 J l ,? ? s paying a big dividend (says our - Oilristcliinch correspondent). 1 I'ollowing some moderate form earlier J in tile season, -he paid an oversize in divil dends when third in tho Salisbury Handi- . cap at the Duncdin meeting during the > holiday period. Allowed to go out at i a false price at his next start, he won > the Drome Handicap and again returned ? a Kreat price for a few lucky investors. I That was enough for the public, and on 5 the linal day he was solidly supported in • the Au Revoir Handicap, only to finish out of a place. Favoured again in the ■ high-weight at Wyndham, he finished • third, but there were only two dividends. > On the first day at Trentham lie went i out paying any old price in the Trentham I High-weight, but was never prominent, i and it was not to be wondered at that > he was able to return an excellent dividend i in the Douro Cup, a race that drew a t splendid hack field. For the Wallaccville High-weight on the > final day he was sent out favourite, but ' was beaten into fourth place, though his I supporters on the place machine looked unlucky. Later in the day he was tried again in the Kclburn Handicap, but after making play out in front with Rebellion, . faded to fifth in the run ihome. On his good days Lord Puck is useful. He is a four-year-old chestnut gelding by t Iliad from Anne Shakespeare, and was i bred by his owner, Mr, J. M. Samson, of I Dunedin.
