WON BY A NECK. FILS DE VAALS SECOND TE TAKINA'S FERRY. RIGHT ROYAL'S TRIAL STAKES The weather was showery to-day for the first day of the Auckland Racing Club's midsummer meeting. There was a fair attendance and the course was heavy. The meeting started with Right Royal, the ninth favourite each way, winning the Trial Stakes Handicap. Knight of Australia, the third fancy, romped home by ten lengths from Ccntaurus in the Orcwa Hurdle Race. There was another surprise in the Ferry Handicap, for which Gold Wings was installed favourite. Outsiders in Tc Takina, Pasture and Faxcno filled the first three places, the favourite being fourth. Wins at Last. Right Royal, who was placed at the Pakuranga and Avondal-2 meetings I earlier in the season, scored his first ! win thin reason when he accounted for the Trial Stakes. He took charge after a couple of furlong.s and was never | afterwards headed. British Talent ijumped away smartly and was steadied in behind the leaders. He came through in the e-traisht. but had no chance with Right Royal. Maioro finished on well j to get third, while Glen Council and | Selwyn had every show, but failed to iget into the money. British Talent, was first to show out from Selwyn. Right I Royal. Ladv Acushla and Valley Maid. Going past the four fminus*? port Right Royal had charge from Lady Acushla. British Talent, Valley Maid. Selwyn. |Glen Council and Kins Fern. Right Royal wa> first into line from Lady Acushla, Glen Council, British Talent. Selwyn and Valley Maid. British Talent then challenged Right Royal and the latter held 011 10 get the verdiet by half a length, with Maioro a similar distance awav third. Valley Maid was fourth, followed bv Sv-Iwvn. Glen Conncll. Flying Vixen. Lady Acushla. a* paugh and Popeye. Romped Home. Knight of Australia found the conditions to suit him in the Orewa Hurdle Race and he made an exhibition of the field over the last two and 1 half furlongs, winning with ridiculous ease. J Dauber was always one of the leaders, but failed to hold off Ccntaurus for second place. The latter has been in the money 011 two occasions 011 the Taranaki circuit during the holidays and ran quite a good race, staying on well in the mud. Dauber and Orient Dawn wore t lie early leaders from Ccntaurus and Noisy Night. Passing the stands! Orient Dawn and Dauber were showing the way to Noisy Xight. Ccntaurus, Tc Ronga and Knight of Australia, with Rovul Abb heading the others. Dauber was about a length dear of Ccntaurus as they raced along the back, with Xoisv Xijjiit. Te Ronga. Orient Dawn, who made a faulty jump at the obstacle at tlie scvcn-lurlonq: post. Knight of Australia and Royal Abb next. Knight of Australia then commcnecd to make a fast move and. taking charge at the hurd e by the three-furlong post, led into the straight from Dauber. Centaurus, Royal Abb, Te Ronga and Xoisy Xight. Once over the last fence Knight of Australia drew away to win by 10 lengths from Centaurus. who beat Dauber by two lengths. Te Ronga was fourth and then followed Royal Abb. with a head to Xoisy Xight and Chikara. Te Takina Wins. There was another surprise in the Ferry Handicap when Te Takina led the field home. She was about sixth at the turn and came through to beat Pasture narrowly and to return a goxl doublefigure dividend. Pasture was the leader from the half-mile peg till headed by Te Takina a short distance from home. Paxeno ran up to her form at the Thames to finish third, while the favourite, Gold Wings, had every show, but had to be content with fourth place at the finish. Wyndora turned round at the start and lost a lot of ground. Penzance was the early leader from Gold Wings, "Biddy Girl, Beeswing. Silver Stick and Pasture. Pasture and Silver Stick then moved up smartly and they led across the top from Gold Wings. Bronze Emerald. Paxeno. Te Takina and Beeswing. There was not much change as they turned for home, where Te Takina put in her claim and, staying on. beat Pasture by half a length, with Paxeno half a head away third. Gold Wings was fourth and tV.cn came Milanion. Beeswing. Bronze Emerald, Silver Cloud, Vitement and Silver Stick. Passing the top Penzance. Biddy Girl and Estro fell. Results: — TRIAL STAKES of £^00.
