Owing to the sodden stale of tho courts at Stanley Street following the heavy S rain, the Auckland Lawn Tennis Associatioii's annual championship meeting -was i not begun to-day as planned. After an inspection of the courts the tournament 1 committee decidcil to postpone the t<juvua- . nicnt until 5.30 a.m. 011 Monday. To speed up the play-oi! of events and thus complete the tourney next week, it was deeided that the men's doubles event should be shortened from 'best of five sets, 1 to best ox three sets for the iirst two rounds. 2 The tournament this year promises to be most successful. Although there is a 3 falling olf in the number of senior cn« - trants -this is more than -balanced hv a " big increase in the number of junior '• players to take part.
