SHOTS FIRED.
TAIHAPE SENSATION* DROVER BEFORE COURT. REMAND ON BAIL GRANTED. - * (By "lVl«vrayli.— Asnwintltm.) TAIHAPE. tliis day. A sequel to tl»e sensational happening at Collier's Junction, near Tailia|>e. on December 27, when two shots were fired at a cottage occupied by William George Hagen, a roadman employed by the Rangitikei County Council, and his wife, Ethel Charlotte Cordes Hagen, was heard in the Tailiape Police Court to-day. When Roy Gane Welley, a drover and insurance a pent, married, aged 37, of Ruru Road, Tailiape, wan charged that, with intent to intimidate or annoy William George Hagen and his wife, he did by night discharge « .308 rifle to alarm, or attempt to alarm Hagen and his wife in their dwelling-house at Collier's Junction. Wallcy was also charged with causing to be received by Roy Alexander Hagan, of Miramar, Wellington, a letter containing threats to do grievous bodily harm to William George Hagan, father of Roy Hagan. Detective-Sergeant Robertson appeared for the police, and a*ked for «■ remand till January 20 at Tailiapo. Accused was allowed in his own recognisance of £260, and one surety of £250, a condition Iteing that he «ta,V away from the vicinity of tlie Hagan's residence.
Police investigations are proceeding under the direction of Detective-Ser-geant Robertson, and Detective-Sergeant O. G. Kelly, arms expert, of Wellington. .
Hagan was in bed. at the time the shots were fired. Both bullets passed through his bedrodm wall, one being embedded in a stud, while the other went out of the roof.
