NORTH SHORE WATER.

Mr. Quartley's letter about the North Shore water requires consideration bv the authorities. Previous to the present rain city users had restrictions on the use of their hoses. r J"o add the demands of approximately 20.000 users of the North Shore would mean greater restrictions, whereas the selling- of the winter over-run would mean something for nothing. It must also appeal t'hat if Lake Pupuke were full it would be a potential stand-l>y of enormous proportions in case of interference with tlie city supply. F. A. HULL.

As an old councillor of Devonport I heavily endorse the letter of Mr. Quartley, who sat on the council *itli me. The great storage capacity of Lake Pupuke is a national asset that must not be wasted because of local differences of opinion. All complaints to-day we had in 19r2. ADAM NIXON. *

Having read A. G. Quartley's letter regarding running the overflow of -water from the Waitakeres, I wouH say, "Whv go and pollute beautiful crystal streamwater with Pupnke poison?"—which no doubt it is. If this water here in Devonport and other boroughs is fit for human consumption why did 000 people go to the protest meeting, while another 200 could not gain admittance? If the water was pure the hall would have been empty and no meeting would have been necessary. I say, "Scrap the lake as a water-supply source and let the •public have boat races there. Keep it as a national reserve." Mr. Aldridge is to be complimented on leaving the Devonport Borough Council's fold and taking the chair at the protest meeting and raising his strong protest with the Mayor of Takapuna.

NEARLY POISONED.
