It includes votes for the War Depart-1 > merit; - 110,218,000 dollars; Navy,' 145,052,000 dollars; and Federal Bureau of investigation, 4 1,475,000 dollars. i The appropriation allows for 518 J additional Navy 'planes, plus the main* | tenance and operation of 200 'planes on neutrality patrol, and for the commissioning of 04 old destroyers, putting 36 of them into first-class readiness. Admiral H. E. Stark, Chief of Naval Operations, told the House Naval Affairs Committee that the Navy may ask Congressional authority to build a new type of , supercruiser of over 10,000 tons and mounting 14in guns. He did not explain the reason, but it is believed - to be intended to counter commerce raiders similar to the Graf Spee. The ships would probably be 20,000-tonners.
