ANTI-AIRCRAFT BARRAGE. | United Press Association.—Copyright. j (Kccelved 11.30 a.m.) ° s LONDON, January 12. ■ The Air Ministry announces that shortly after 11 a;m. an enemy 'plane crossed the east coast, and was' later observed over the Thames Estuary, when anti-aircraft guns opened lire. Fighter patrols were sent up and drove the c.neiny back to' sea. During the morning people of Central London could hoar gunfire. An enemy 'plane was reported to have reached the outskirts of the London area, despite, a constant barrage of anti-aircraft fire. The 'plane is believed to have been hit.
East Coast anti-aircraft guns again opened up early in the e.vening when a 'plane was sighted. To-day's raiders cam© closer than yesterday's.'. Gun flashes were clearly Visible. A 'plane, believed to bo a Heinkel, appeared over the Yorkshire coast. British lighters chased it seawards, and lnachine-gun fire was heard. British, machines were seen swooping dowii as if to make, a kill as the machines Crossed the cliff tops. The fighters later returned. . Soon afterwards H.A.F. bombers appeared, making ' seawards. Gunfire was heard in the distance. Another believed to bev a Heinkel, flew high over the Suffolk | coast. Anti-aircraft guns opened lire | and the 'plane disappeared to the south-: east. ' I Heavy anti-aircraft fire was heard in the Thames Estuary. Many puffs of fciiioke appeared in the sk} r , A 'plane, was sighted flying at a great height.
