SLEEPING CAR.
(Rr Josslo \VaJlors, Colombo Road, Waiuku.) Old grcv Tom is wrapped snug in a blanket of dreams, But often I wonder if he's just what lie seems, For why should a cat of respectable hours Need to sleep all day long in my host bed of flowers? When the neighbour missed chickens and asked me, I said, "You could never blame Tom, for he's .always well fed." Is he Jekyll and Hyde ? For I know that I saw The marks of a trap round one grey velvet paw. When the windows of houses are sightless with sleep; With eyes, gleaming yellow, does he pantlicr-likc creep To wage battles of honour—l very much fear That accounts for his scratches and one tattered ear. Grey Tom stretches himself with luxurious grace, Lazily flexes his claws, and washes his face, Bares long wliite teeth in a yawn—then winks, so it seems, Then draws round him again the gay blanket of dreams.
