LOXDOX, December 27,
The first Indian contingent, consisting entirely of Moslems, with their own priests, cooks, water-carriers and sweepers, landed in France. They are under the leadership of British and Indian officers and wear Indian winter kit, which the authorities will supplement. The officers will buy live stock, mostly goats, which must be ceremonially slain. These will supplement special food, including rice, ghee, lentils, flour and other ingredients for curries. The British commissariat will supply tea, sugar «tnd vegetables. The transport includes a number of mules. The men will be dispersed in small units in the forward areas and housed in Nissen huts. They will be subject to Indian military law.
