BORSTAL ESCAPEE.
ALL COUNTS ADMITTED. FURTHER SIX MONTHS' GAOL. (From Our Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Thursday. As a result of his escape from the Waikeria Borstal Institute on December 4, Alfred Hicke Howell appeared before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Hamilton Police Court to-day charged with being en incorrigible rogue. He was also charged with the theft of food and clothing, and with converting a horse and a rowing-boat to his own use. He pleaded guilty to all counts, and said he "had no reason for running away. Senior-Sergeant G. H. Lambert said thet accused escaped 011 a. horse owned by the institute and rode to Te Rau-a-moa,, where, after hiding in the bush and stealing the goods referred to, he borrowed a boat and rowed to Kawhia, where he was arrested by Constable MeKenzie. - Accused escaped from the institute last March, said Mr. Lambert, but was caught and had his sentence extended. Although he had a formidable list of previous convictions, he was reported to- be a good worker. It cost the Prisons Department £10 to recapture hix~ this month. For escaping from custody, accused was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, to be served at the end of his present term. On each of the remaining counts he was sentenced to one month's the sentences to be conl current.
