TWO WELLINGTON FIRES.
IGNITION , OF SPIRITS.

WELUNGTON", Thursday.
The ignition of spirits wae responsible for the outbreak of two fij#e in Wellington to-day. .The first occurred ehortly after 9 a.m. in the Agricultural Department laboratories in Sydney Street, where alcoho? wae being distilled for research purposes. It caused mtnor damage before it was controlled with a chemical extinguisher. The second outbreak occurred when a spirit stove exploded in a sevenroomed houee in Onepu Road, Lyall Bay, owned by Mrs. Lamberg, of Paraparaumu, and occupied by Mesere. S. W. Powell, A. G. Wood'and W. Elworthy. The flames had a good hold before the fire brigade arrived, and, with the exception of two middle roome, serioue damage was done. The effects of Messrs. Powell and Wood, which were not insured, were severely damaged. Mr. El worthy's belongings, which were insured, were not eeriously damaged.
