NAVAL VOLUNTEERS.
Trinidad Unit Rushed By
Recruits.
BASE AT WAR STRENGTH. (Received 1 p.m.) RUGBY, December 20. Britain's naval base at Trinidad has been strongly reinforced by the formation pf a naval volunteer unit, which is now working at full strength. "The Tiinidad Naval Valunteers," as the unit is called, was formed without any recruiting campaign, but in spite of that five times the number of men required applied for enlistment. The men are drawn from all parts of the colony, from Sangre flrande to Bago, San Fernando Barataria and Port of Spain. Many yachtsmen and deepsea fishermen are included. Some have served in the Navy or the merchant marine. The naval base which the volunteers have joined forms a self-contained unit, the personnel including mechanics, carpenters, electricians, boat builders, cooks and stewards, besides regular seamen.
