HOLIDAY PAY.
HOUSING SCHEME.
DECISION OF CABINET,
Although a special agreement between the New Zealand Workers' Union (Auckland district) and the State Housing Department does not provide for holiday pay the Cabinet haa decided that all classes of worker* engaged under the housing schema shall be paid for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, provided they have been engaged for at least fo:ir week* continuously prior to December 23.
Mr. R. L. MacPhail, officer in charge of housing construction in Auckland, said this morning that the agreement between the Department and the men embraced every type of worker, and there were approximately 200 engaged in Auckland. In the agreement with the Now Zealand Workers' Union no provision was made for holidays, but special rates of pay had been agreed upon. By being paid for the. three holidays mentioned the workers were receiving something additional to what the agreement stipulated and the men were being brought into line in rrapect to the holidays with other employees of the State services.
