This map illustrates the large extent to which Holland and Belgium have utilised water in the defence of their countries. In Holland the shaded portion running down the centre of the country is the region which in 48 hours could be inundated, while Belgium could use the Albert Canal to flood the region between that canal and the Dutch frontier. These defence preparations have been made in fear of German invasion. (See letterpress below.)
