BIG STAKES INCREASE. AUCKLAND CLUB'S ACTION. CHRISTMAS PROGRAMME. Stake money amounting to £8500 is to be distributed by the Auckland Trotting Club at its summer meeting, which will be held at Alexandra Park on December 27. 29 and 30. This sum represents an increase of £875 when compared with the total at the 1938 fixture. Naturally the Auckland Cup will be the main attraction, and its value, £1400 and a gold cup worth £100, is sure to attract pacers of class from the South Island, in addition to Springfield Globe, a stablemate of Lawn Derby, and winner of the last inter-Dominion championships. W. J. O'Sliea, trainer of both horses, has announced in Christchurch that Springfield Globe is certain to cross the Tasman to compete in the main events at Epsom. The ( up contest will be run over two miles, with a 4.31 limit, but it is open to horses assessed at 4.32 or better. The President's Handicap, on the third day. has similar conditions, and is worth £750. and trophy to the value of £25. presented by Mr. K. ft. Hridgens The Champion Handicap, on the middle day, carries a stake of £750, the distance being

The committee of the club has decided to withhold the closing of entries until after the Waikato meetings on December 2 and 9. and they will close on Monday.
