NEW AWARD.
TALLYMEN'S CLAIMS. DISPUTE BEFORE COURT. j The hearing of a dispute filed by the Auckland Tallymen's Union of Workers against the Auckland Stevedoring Co., Ltd., and others, in which a new award is being sought by the union, was begun in the Arbitration Court before Mr. Justice O'Regan and the assessors, Messrs. Prime and Monteith, this morning. Mr. H. J. Nheppard appeared for the union and Mr. W. E. Anderson for the employers. The union is asking for a 40-liour week worked from Mondays to Fridays inclusive, with overtime rates for workdone on Saturdays. A weekly wage of £7 is asked for foremen tally clerks and £(5 10/ for others. For casuals 3/(5 per hour is asked for ordinary tallying and 3/9 for receiving and delivering. In addition to statutory holidays three weeks' annual holiday is sought for permanent tallymen. In their counter proposals tbe employers submit a continuance of the( existing award with an amendment providing for a minimum wage for permanent tallymen of £o 5/ per week.
