"DRY" CANTEENS.
MESSAGE TO MXIfISTERB.
Urging the Defence Department to establish only "dry" canteens in military camps, the executive of the Auckland Council of Christian Congregation? resolved at it# monthly meeting l« st evening to eend the following wire to the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defence and the Minister of Finance:---
"The executive of the Auckland Council of Christian Congregations, after serious consideration, urgently appeal' to the Defence Department to establish only 'dry* canteens in military camp ß following the Commonwealth example The council also heartily congratulates the Government on prohibiting liquor in dance halls."
In supporting this attitude to military cautions, speakers took the view that they were not asking for something new, but were appealing for the eoU" tinuance of what had been the custom for many years, and which had proved very satisfactory. It \va» also pointed out that there were no "wet" canteens in.Australian military camp*. By maintaining only "dry" canteens it was conthat the moral and physical well-being of the troops would be continued.
