EMERGENCY PRECAUTIONS.

MOUNT ROSKILL DISTRICT.

The Mount Roskill fire station was the scene of a happy social function on the occasion of the opening of the district emergency precaution* hospital cupboard. The cupboard, which is lent by the Road Board, is domiciled in the Mount Ror-kill tire station, and was equipped at an approximate cost of .£2(i from funds obtained bv a canvas of the district by ladies of the auxiliary, such canvas lieing commenced prior to the outbreak of war by the original Air Raid Precautions Auxiliary at (.lie request, of the Health Department, whose ap|>oiritcd nurse, Mrs. J. W. Ritchie, sujiervised the furnishing of same.

During the evening the chairman of the Road Board, Mr. C. Nr. McCullough. introduced the president of the original scheme. Mrs. W. R. Wilson, who gave a brief outline of the work women were carrying out nnder war conditions in fireat Britain, and thereafter presented 37 certificates to ladies of the district gained for first aid and home nursing (St. John Aimbulance course), also in respect of motor mechanics. Mrs. Ritchie then handed to Mrs. Wilson three keys of the cabinet (two .being sealed), and Mrs. Wilson presented one scaled key to the president of the local emergency precautions scheme (Mrs. C. AT. McCullough) and the other to the officer in charge of the fire station (Mr. Adams). With the third key (the property of the nurse in charge) the cabinet was duly opened and those present were invited to inspect the contents. The function concluded with the serving of a dainty supper by the ladies.

Among the guests of honour were: Mesdames W. R. Wilson, R. B. Wilson, Mackay. Martin, Misses E. Bennett, Batflev. Dr. Hilda Xorthcroft, Clerk and metnl>ers of the Mount Roskill Road Board and wives, Superintendent and Mrs. Wilson. Mr. and Mrs. Adams, Officer H. W. and Mrs. Thompson and assisting Pit. John Ambulance nurses.
