MAORI RECRUITS.
NORTHLAND'S QUOTA. NGAPUHIS IN OTHER DISTRICTS. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. Maoris in Northland consider that. Ngapuhis who have enlisted in other areas should be allotted to Northland's quota for the Maori battalion of the Special Force. Less than two years ago there was a considerable migration promoted by the Native Land Department. Over 200 single young men were to the Eotorua and Taupo districts for land development work, and a number of these have now enlisted away from their homes. An important point is that the migrants comprised a large percentage of aingle men who otherwise would have been available for enlistment here. In contrast with this, only four Maoris belonging to other tribes have been among the 240 single and 216 married men to offer their services in Northland. They comprise two Arawas from Rotorua, one Ngatikahungunu from Hawke's Bay and one Ngatiporou from the East Coast.
