ONIONS.
The Internal Marketing Division set lip by the New Zealand Government for the purpose of distributing certain classes of foodstuffs lias been a costly affair for this country. The Marketing Division quite recently dumped huge quantities of onions in the rubbish tip at Mount Eden and when publicity was given to this action it immediately transferred its attention to the Western Springs rubbish dump. In the early mornings large quantities were carried out and covered up as quickly as possible. It is alleged that well over one hundred tons were dumped in both places. This is an unheard of situation and indicates very clearly gross incompetence and shocking lack of public interest. The onions belong to the people of this country and no Government has any right whatever to involve us in such a terrific loss. Trade has a right to go through the ordinary channels which have served the public so well for many years. How long are the people of New Zealand going to put up with this nonsense of internal marketing by the State? This is a time for economy and not for experiments in fool schemes. TjOOKER-ON.
